bpb Scout: Scuba Guru Plays Travel Guide

Neet Shah, scuba instructor and founder of Flying Mantas plays travel agent for you this season.

Fittingly, Neet’s romance with scuba diving began at during his honeymoon, when he dived for the first time. Since then, he has dived in the Bahamas, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Galapagos, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Thailand, and the Andamans.

Before giving into his scuba obsession, Neet was a management consultant in New York City, and has graduated from IIM Ahmedabad. He runs Flying Mantas, a scuba training and travel agency in Mumbai.

He gives us the low down on his favorite travel destinations:

Sri Lanka: I’ve only been there for a couple of days… but I just loved the vibe. The people are awesomely friendly, the food is great and with the war over, the north-east will be open for tourism. Plus, the locals claim that the beaches up there are as good as the Maldives.

The Andamans: I’ve been on many beach vacations around the world and am happy to report that one of the nicest ones I’ve ever had was right here on our doorstep. Plus, it is awesome value for money!

Costa Rica: Volcanos, rainforests, white water rafting, surfing, thermal spas, ziplining, bungee, diving and COFFFEEEEEE! All in a country the size of Maharashtra. Need I say more?

Bhutan: Never been there, but any place that measures Gross National Happiness certainly knows what it’s doing. If I go, I may never come back.

Galapagos Islands: I know this one is half way around the world, but if there is one place I want to go back to… this is it. For nature lovers, there is no better place in the world. Where else can you hang with penguins, sea lions, iguanas, hammerheads, and turtles!? Drool….
