Go Figure!

Fray’s Anatomy
There’s a lot of unnecessary fat that can be trimmed off Mannequins, Khar’s newest fashion store. Ubiquitous Bangkok lycra tops, for instance, or loud Indian outfits. And we suppose no one would miss the generic patent leather heels either. Actually, if it weren’t for the cute ground floor space with the red brick walls we spied while driving by, we wouldn’t have stopped by at this week-old store at all. Lucky we did.
Copy That
Don’t judge this mannequin’s whole without assessing its parts. We’ll even go out on a limb and recommend that you stay a while to explore its body of work. If you do, you might be rewarded by a yellow Marc Jacobs sheath with purple dots (Rs 2,100); or a Chanel LBD with cutaway shoulder detailing (Rs 3,250); a fluid floral Bebe dress (Rs 2,000) was also spotted, as was a summery cotton BCBG (Rs 1,200) frock. Also on the rack are lesser known but edgy Asian designers like Japanese couturier Tsumori Chisato, whose patchwork boho dress (Rs 2,300) would work well for a brunch. Sure, they’re first copies from China, and few and far between are actually appealing, but they’re worth the hunt.
Size Me Up
And if you can’t fit into these, owner Dolly – she’s also a Bollywood designer and stylist - will make you a copy to size in her out back. Judging from the professional set up and 6-odd crew of tailors, we’d say you’re in good hands.
Extras
Accessory shelves are adorned with first copy designer bags, zipper flower heels, slippers with crochet detailing, animal print treggings (trouser + leggings) and more. Our find of the day: multi-coloured stone bib necklace (Rs 1,200).
Final autopsy report: Mannequins should be one of those places you round up every couple of months to see what gems you can bag for less. And you shouldn’t be disappointed if you come away empty handed.
Getting there: Mannequins, flat no 3, ground floor, Kajaria Kunj, 19th Road, Khar (W), call 26487003.
